Ahalia School of Pharmacy organized a One Day Regional Workshop on “Reporting Matters: Capacity Building in Pharmacovigilance & ADR Surveillance” on 26th August 2025 at the ASET Auditorium. The workshop aimed to create awareness and strengthen the knowledge and skills of students and healthcare professionals in pharmacovigilance and adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting, thereby contributing to patient safety.
The program began with a prayer song by the students, followed by a warm welcome address by Prof. Dr. Sapna Shrikumar, Principal, Ahalia School of Pharmacy. The inaugural address was delivered by Dr. Suresh Babu K. G, Chief Medical Director, Ahalia Health, Heritage & Knowledge Village, who emphasized the need for vigilance in drug safety practices. The keynote address was given by Mrs. Riya George, Research Scholar from the Department of Neurology, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, who highlighted the importance of ADR reporting and shared practical insights. A special address was delivered by Dr. Krishnakumar Kishor, Executive Director, Ahalia Group of Institutions. Felicitations were offered by Dr. Raju A, Professor and Head, Department of Pharmacology, and Dr. Sini T. Inasu, Associate Professor, Ahalia School of Pharmacy. The formal proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Anupriya Thomas, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology.
The sessions were coordinated and anchored by Mrs. Anjana K. S, Assistant Professor from the Depatment of Pharmacognosy. The workshop witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 142 attendees, including students, faculty, and healthcare professionals from various disciplines. The detailed split-up is as 68 students from Ahalia School of Pharmacy (4th semester and 6th semester), 26 students from Ahalia School of Nursing, 44 students from Ahalia Ayurveda Medical College, 3 pharmacists: Mr. Akhil K. and Ms. Nayana S. (Ahalia Diabetic Hospital) and Mr. Mohammad Wasif (Ahalia Women and Child Hospital) and 1 faculty member from Ahalia College of Nursing.
The workshop successfully sensitized participants to the importance of pharmacovigilance and ADR surveillance, strengthened their understanding of reporting systems, and encouraged them to take an active role in promoting safer use of medicines. The program was well-received and proved to be a valuable platform for knowledge sharing and inter-professional learning.
