Community Awareness Programme on Mass DrugAdministration for Lymphatic Filariasis Elimination

The Department of Pharmacy Practice, Ahalia School of Pharmacy, organized a Community
Awareness Programme on Mass Drug Administration (MDA) for the Prevention and
Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis on 16 June 2026 at Pudussery Grama Panchayat in
association with DME Palakkad and Pudussery PHC. The programme involved 16 students
of Fourth Semester B.Pharm and two faculty members and was conducted under the guidance
and support of Dr. Sapna Shrikumar, Principal, Ahalia School of Pharmacy. A training
session on lymphatic filariasis prevention and the importance of MDA was delivered by Mr.
Shajahan, Health Inspector, Pudussery FHC. Under the supervision of Mrs. Anitha, Junior
Health Inspector, HWC Walayar, students conducted house-to-house visits, distributed DEC
and Albendazole to eligible residents, provided awareness on disease prevention, distributed
pamphlets, encouraged medicine consumption as per government guidelines, and collected
community feedback. The programme effectively enhanced public awareness regarding the
prevention and elimination of lymphatic filariasis.
